  • Peter Sestoft to present on C#4.0

    den 18 oktober 2009

At our next meeting, Peter Sestoft, professor at the IT University of Copenhagen, author of C# Precisely and member of the ECMA standardization committee for C# and CLI, will be presenting the next generation of the C# programming language. The presentation, titled "What's new in C# 4.0", will concentrate on new features such as variance in generic interfaces, the 'dynamic' type, named and default method parameters and the Parallel Task Library.

After the presentation we will have open space sessions, so there should be a good chance to get into deep discussions on anything related to C# and the CLI/CLR!

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 24th from 18:00. The meeting will take place at ITU, but this time we have only been able to get a meeting room with a limited number of seats, so if interest is high we may move the meeting to a different location. This also means that participants will have to sign up by writing to this address: altdotnetoresund@live.com.

    See you in November!

  • Meeting in Copenhagen on Oct. 1st

    den 14 september 2009

!!!Update!!! The date has been changed to Tuesday October 6th. See you there!

The next meeting in Copenhagen will be on Thursday October 1st Tuesday October 6th from 18:00 till about 21:00. The guys at BestBrains will host the evening's meeting in their offices (for directions see below) and will provide light refreshments. Sune Gynthersen from BestBrains will start off with a presentation titled "Test-Driven Development and Beyond", in which he will share his experiences working with and teaching about TDD. After the presentation we will continue with open space sessions about test-driven development and whatever other .Net-related subjects people feel like discussing.

Because space is limited this time, people who want to participate are required to write to altdotnetoresund@live.com. BestBrains' offices are located at Strandgade 4, 1401 København K, which is in Christianshavn, only 5 minutes from the Metro (Christianshavn Metro station).

If there is anything you would like to discuss at the meeting during the open space sessions, feel free to suggest it on the mailing list. All input is welcome. See you in October!

  • ALT.NET Oresund meeting in Lund Sept 17th

    den 9 september 2009

The next ALT.NET Oresund meeting will take place in the great (or small :) education city of Lund. This time we have been invited by Labs2 in Lund, a couple of minutes from the train station.

As usual the agenda is quite open. One thing's for certain: we will have Open Spaces sessions. For more information and discussions about the agenda, use this thread in our Google Group.

    How to get there
The Labs2 office is located at Winstrupsgatan 1 (map). It's very easy to get to Lund from both Malmö and Copenhagen, most of the Oresund trains stop in the city.

    How to register
The Labs2 guys have been kind enough to promise us some sandwiches. In order for us to know how many sandwiches we need, you have to e-mail us, at altdotnetoresund@live.com. Please do that as soon as possible.

    When
The meeting will be held Thursday September 17. We'll start at 18.00 and it will probably end around 21.

Any changes to the schedule will primarily be communicated via the google group. If you're not already a member there, we recommend that you join.

The Code Camp will be held in Malmo on Sunday August 30th. It will be a full day event.

All facts below but first up here is how you sign up:

All you need to do is send an email to altdotnetoresund@live.com and you are signed up for the event! You may also include appropriate information from the list below:

Sponsorship yields an honorable mention on our web site and a the event plus it is damn nice of you.*

    The facts are:

    • One full day from 9am to 5pm on August 30th.
    • Great facilities at Malmo University a stone's throw from the Central Station. If you can throw a stone 600 m that is? Here is the map of the location: Malmö Högskola "Gäddan 8", Citadellsvägen 7. You cross the road from the main entrance of the Central Station and keep to the right across the new bridge with the construction site. The target is 600m from the station straight ahead.
    • We have three separate rooms to host activities.
    • We make the schedule ourselves. Here is the thread at our forum for pre-planned content: forum
    • Surely there will be Open Space.
    • We can have some sessions if we like. There is plenty of room.
    • We can set up group work activities.
    • Likely we will round off the day with dinner and a pub.

Malmo University have made great effort to supply us with fabulous rooms for our Code Camp in Malmo in August. BIG thanks to Martin Wetterhorn for being so very easy to work with and eager to assist!

    See you there!

    Cheers,

  • Meeting at ITU, Copenhagen on June 25th

    den 5 juni 2009

The next meeting will be held at ITU on Thursday, June 25th! The meeting will start at 18 and end around 21-21:30. We will meet at auditorium 3, which is the same place that the first meeting was held.

The last couple of meetings have consisted of one headlining presentation followed by several rounds of open space sessions. This has worked out pretty well, so we will continue this way for now.

The headlining presentation for this meeting will be about the recently released nUnit 2.5, and it will be held by me (Martin N Jensen). I will walk through the major features of nUnit, giving special attention to the newly added features, and I will also compare it to other unit testing frameworks. I will try to focus on how to utilize the features of the framework to produce clear and expressive unit tests.

After the presentation we will get to the really interesting part of the meeting: the open space sessions, so remember to come up with some interesting subjects that can make for heated dicussions! I will be fresh home from NDC 2009, the new meeting place for progressively minded software devs, so I hope to have a lot of new ideas to discuss.

I hope to see a lot of people at the meeting, and also some of the Swedes this time around!

  • 3rd ALT.NET Oresund meeting April 27 in Malmö

    den 4 april 2009

All right, it seems as if we've gotten the ball rolling. We've had two meetings this far, and from what we can see, the interest of ALT.NET seems to be high in this corner of the world.

This time we are teaming up for a night of fun and geekery at the office of the sponsor Softhouse in Malmö. We have managed to get the brilliant Niclas Nilsson to prepare a talk for us, and naturally we'll have some other fun stuff, like lightning talks and open space discussions. We'll keep discussions on the topics in the google group, so if you have an idea of a great topic to talk about, don't hesitate to drop a mail there!

    How to get there
The address is Stormgatan 14, in walking distance from Malmö Central Station, for you arriving by train. If you're not sure exactly where it is, search for the address at hitta.se. Get in the front door, in the elevators directly in the front of you and go to the 5th floor. If there are any problems with you coming in, call +46 (0)70-6643977 and we'll let you in.

    How to register
Since there will be some food, we ask you to register by sending an email to altdotnetoresund@live.com to let us know you're coming, and if you have any special wishes for food due to allergies or other preferences, please state it in that e-mail.

    When
The meeting will be held Monday April 27. We'll start at 18.00 and it will end around 21-ish.

Any changes to the schedule will primarily be communicated via the google group. If you're not already a member there, we recommend that you join.

  • Second Alt.Net Oresund meeting held in Copenhagen

    den 22 mars 2009

The second Alt.Net Oresund meeting was held yesterday at ITU. We weren't as many as the first meeting in Malmö, but this is most like because there was no pizza and beer this time around. We'll have to work on our pizza and beer suppliers...

We had a couple of lightning talks (although it turned out to be very difficult to stick to the 10 minute limit, so it might be more accurately categorized as rolling thunder talks), and I would like to thank Nicolai Nyberg for delivering a fine introduction to Enterprise Service Bus architectures. The slides have been posted in the group.

We also had some very lively open space sessions and I hope everyone had a good time and that we will see you again in future meetings!

ITU turned out to be a very fine setting for the meeting, so lets hope we can go there again if we cannot find a company near a train station connected to Sweden that will have us.

It seems there was some confusion as to whether the meeting was Tuesday or Thursday of this week, but please be aware that it was Tuesday, and there will be no meeting on Thursday!

The next meeting will be in Malmö, we just need to decide on a date.

  • Second Alt.Net Oresund meeting to take place on March 24th in Copenhagen!

    den 23 februari 2009

We have finally found a good place in Copenhagen to have the next meeting! The IT University of Copenhagen have been so kind as to let us borrow an auditorium on Tuesday the 24th of March. The auditorium is fairly large, so we should have room for a good number of participants. The meeting will start at 18 and end at 21.

The programme is not entirely decided yet, but we're aiming at having a series of lightning talks followed by an open space session, so there will be good opportunities for active participation. If you have an interesting subject and would like to do a lightning talk, please write to the google group. We will also have a small introduction to Alt.Net Oresund, so that new participants can get an idea of what it's all about.

    How to get there
ITU is pretty easy to get to from both the Sweden and of course the Copenhagen side. The easiest way to get there for most people will be to take the metro to Islands Brygge station and walk from there. There is a good explanation of how to get there and a link to a map on ITU's site.

How to register We only ask participants to register if we have a very limited number of seats, and we don't know yet exactly how many we have room for, so more on this might follow. However, if you haven't joined the Alt.Net Oresund google group yet, please do that so we can at least get an estimate of how many show up. The group is our main channel of communication, so any minor updates and news are likely to be only posted there. We also use the group to discuss various Alt.Net-related subjects and continue discussions from the meetings.

When On Tuesday 24th of March from 18 to 21.

Since we have no sponsors as such this time there will be no free food and drinks :-(, so it might be a good idea to grab a sandwich before you show up.

Ok, if you have any questions please post them on the group and we will try to answer as quickly as possible.

  • Here is another ALTernative ;~) and unofficial ALT.NET Logo free to adopt and use!

    den 9 februari 2009

Here is another ALTernative ;~) and unofficial ALT.NET Logo free to adopt and use!

A while ago Oren Eini (Ayende Rahien), a friend of mine, posted an ALT.NET logo under Creative Commons License: http://ayende.com/Blog/archive/2008/03/09/ALT.Net-Logo.aspx

Then when we started our local ALT.NET group; ALT.NET Oresund a colleague and another friend of mine at Dotway, Peter Kleine, wanted to spiff our site... he created another logo that he liked better. Designers! * sigh * ;~)

Neither Oren's logo or Peters are the 'official' ALT.NET Logo. In fact there isn't one. Please view them as ALTernatives!

So without further ado Peter has agreed to make his logos available also under Creative Commons License same as Oren did. In fact it was Oren who pointed me to his logo licence text! Thanks Oren!

If you wish you may use this logo and if you want a logo of the same type for your community with your name on it instead of "Oresund", please contact our community through our forum; ALT.NET Oresund Forum!

Here is the sky drive folder where our logo pack is published:

Thank you again Peter for the spiffy logo! Great work - much appreciated!

    Cheers,

    M.
